To your delight, you have finally bought yourself a sectional Hormann garage door. Apart from the door itself, you also decided to go further by buying and electronic door opener, a hormann ecostar. You, like most people decided to choose that brand because according to some testimonials, the company is reliable and most importantly, they give quality products all the time.

So after installation, you can finally relax and let the door do its job for several years and maybe decades to come. But the question is, should you really be doing that? Is it okay to just let your garage door alone?
The answer is no. If you really want your newly bought garage door and garage door opener to last really long, you should do your part in maintaining them as well. Now if at this point, you do not have much idea about care and maintenance of these things, then here are some tips that we can share with you.

For the Sectional garage doors:

1. When fitting and mounting the doors, make it a point that the brackets or mounts are properly secured. You should also make sure that the construction of your garage ceiling is strong enough to carry the weight of the door and its mounts.

2. Refrain from attaching anything at the back of the door. You have to remember that any attachments, no matter how small, can potentially make your door heavier. And this additional weight may cause the door’s mount or railings to collapse.

3. If you notice that your door is not going up or down smoothly, do not attempt to fix it yourself unless if you are a professional of course. Tinkering with it may not only cause more damage but it can also void out the warranty of your door.

4. Clean your Sectional garage doors regularly. According to the manufacturer, once at least every 3 months will do. However, if you can do it more often than that then the better. When cleaning, the use of mild, non abrasive detergent and water is recommended.

5. Provide your door more protection by giving it a paint treatment as necessary. As for the paint to use, make sure that you purchase resin paints that are available in the market. They are best because they are specially suited for the outdoors.

For the electric garage door opener:

1. Since the device is electronic, make sure that you keep it dry and away from humid places as the moisture may cause your device to malfunction.

2. Also, try to keep it free from dust and dirt that can potentially interfere with the operation of your garage door.

3. Finally, should a malfunction occur, make sure that you report the problem to a certified person who can fix it.

Those are simple maintenance tips that you can keep in mind. If you notice, for the most part you do not have to be an expert to care for your garage door and opener. You just need a little time and attention for details.
